Amitabh Bachchan is currently in a controversy over animal sacrifice at a temple in Guwahati, for his recovery.

Samajwadi Party leaders from Madhya Pradesh, led by S. Kishore, on Saturday sacrificed two buffaloes at the Kamakhya temple.

Temple priests claimed that the buffaloes were offered to invoke the blessings of goddess Kamakhya for the good health of Bachchan and also for the well being of UP Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Amitabh who is currently recovering at Lilavati Hospital after doctors successfully performed a surgery to treat diverticulitis, is considered to be close to the Samajwadi party. His wife Jaya is a MP, nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the Samajwadi party.

The Kamakhya temple is considered the highest seat of Tantrik rituals.

Animal rights activists have been seeing red. "We do not know if the buffaloes were sacrificed with the consent of Bachchan or Mulayam Singh. But this is an unpardonable crime and an utter disrespect to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act," said Sangeeta Goswami of the People for Animals.

Animal sacrifice is a crime punishable by up to five years imprisonment.

Amitabh is believed to be recovering and meeting guests, selectively. Shahrukh Khan called on the Bachchans last Friday and spent over an hour laughing and chatting with both father and son.
