Mumbai: Just a day after Raj Thackeray officially severed
ties with the Shiv Sena, Maharashtra State BJP President
Nitin Gadkari called upon the former Sainik on Monday.
Raj, on Sunday, had also announced the possibility of
instituting his independent party.
Gadkari, however, did not reveal the conversation that
took place with Raj Thackeray. Even so, the meeting
is vital as the BJP’s stand on the Uddhav-Raj
row has been visibly guarded so far. In fact, the next
few days will be crucial in making clear the real stand
of the Sena ally. Though the BJP has maintained that
all the events in the Sena are “the party’s
internal matter”, the Sena’s split is very
much expected to affect the Sena-BJP equation in the
upcoming elections in Maharashtra.
Gadkari, on the other hand insists that, “It was
a personal meeting as my old friend (Raj) had called
me for breakfast. I could not go earlier as I was away
in Nagpur.” Anyway, leaving the personal chemistry
aside, the BJP decision-makers will definitely leave
their options wide open.
