In an interesting case of alleged abduction and illegal confinement, CBI, successfully recovered the "abducted" person, Man Singh from District Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh). Man Singh, a known supplier of weapons to dacoits in the dreaded Chambal Region had gone missing on 8.2.2005. Disappearance of Man Singh created furore in Chitrakoot district (M.P.) leading to transfer and disciplinary action against several senior police officers as Ram Lakhan Singh, a resident of Chitrakoot district and father of Man Singh in a Habeas Corpus Petition filed before the Allahabad High Court alleged his abduction and illegal confinement by the district police authorities.

CBI initiated investigation into the matter on the directions of the High Court of Allahabad on 30.9.2005. During investigations, CBI established a camp office at Chitrakoot and conducted raids at remote locations in and around Chitrakoot, Banda District of Uttar Pradesh and Satna District of Madhya Pradesh. Persistent efforts finally paid dividends when Man Singh was apprehended near Railway Road, Jabalpur (M.P) on 28.11.2005.

Preliminary investigations of CBI revealed that Man Singh had gone into hiding on his own. His family members had thereafter misused the legal process only to force the Chitrakoot district police authorities not to pursue criminal cases against him.
