vacancies in supreme court and high courts

Rajya Sabha

The Rajya Sabha was informed that there are 25 Judges in position as against the sanctioned posts of 26 Judges in Supreme court as on 30.11.2004. The lone vacancy was due to the retirement of Justice Doraiswami Raju on 2.7.2004. The Minister of State for Law and Justice, Shri K. Venkatapathy told the House that two posts of Judges are to fall vacant during the next six months. In reply to another question the Minister said 143 posts of Judges of High Courts are vacant as on 14.12.2004. The details of vacancies are as follows:
