The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a scheme to identify deserving Colleges throughout the country as Colleges with Potential for Excellence (CPE) on the basis of certain parameters during the Xth plan period. 47 Colleges have been selected in the first phase.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Human Resource Development Shri M.A.A. Fatmi in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
Shri Fatmi also disclosed that the Government has decided, in principle, to a proposal for restoration of central university status of the University of Allahabad. He, however, did not indicate any definite time frame for taking a final decision on the proposal as the necessary procedural formalities in this regard are yet to be completed.
The Minister informed the House that the Indian Institute of Planning & Management is a Registered Educational Society under Societies Registration Act 1860, and is conducting MBA and BBA programmes, which are not approved by AICTE.
