The new line from Quazigund to Baramulla is a part of Udhampur-Quazigund-Baramulla new line project. The Quazigund-Baramulla section has been targeted for completion during 2005-2006. However, the completion of this section is likely to be delayed due to delay in land acquisition and militant activities prevailing in the area. The matter is regularly being pursued with the State Government to resolve land disputes and hand over the land to Railway free of all encumbrances. Efforts have also been taken to step up security arrangements on the project alignment.
This information was given by the Minister for Railways Shri Lalu Prasad in reply to a question from Smt. Maya Singh in the Rajya Sabha today.
