tsunami relief efforts by ministry of water resources

TSUNAMI – Action taken by Ministry of Water Resources in southern States is as follows:-

1. Andaman & Nicobar Islands

(a) A team of officers from Ministry of Water Resources, Central Ground Water Board has already reached Port Blair to assess the damage caused to drinking water sources and rendering necessary assistance to Andaman & Nicobar Administration especially relating to flushing, repair etc,. of existing wells.

(b) Submersible pumps from Chennai and Kolkata are being airlifted to Port Blair as per requirements indicated by Andaman & Nicobar Administration.

2. Andhra Pradesh

Three CGWB teams have been deputed to assess the contamination of drinking water sources and contact the State government officials for rendering any further assistance required by them.

3. Tamil Nadu

Six CGWB teams have been deputed for assessment of contamination in respect of drinking water sources through ground water and to render assistance to State government officials.

4. Kerala

Two CGWB teams have been deputed to assess damage in respect of drinking water source and to render assistance to State Government officials.
