traffic on jallandhar city-pathankot section of northern railway restored

The passenger traffic, disrupted on Jallandhar City-Pathankot section of Firozpur Division of Northern Railway between Bhangala-Mirthal stations on December 14, 2004 following head-on collision at 12 noon between Ahmedabad bound 9112 DN Jammu Tawi-Ahmedabad Express and 1 JMP Jallandhar-Pathankot local passenger (Diesel Multiple Unit), has been restored with effect from 4.10 AM today, when first train no. 4646 passed.

Meanwhile, the number of dead has gone up to 37. So far, 27 bodies have been identified. Of the 66 injured persons, 13 have been discharged and 53 injured are admitted to various hospitals at Mukerian, Dasuya, Jallandhar and Ludhiana. Prima facie cause for collision is alluded to “Rules for train operation of Paper Line Clear (PLC) not observed”.
