sunil dutt to visit relief camps in port blair, chennai and pondi

The Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Sunil Dutt will be visiting Port Blair, Chennai and Pondicherry to personally supervise the relief work being undertaken by the organisations under his ministry.

Shri Dutt will be visiting rehabilitation and shelter sites for Tsunami affected people at Port Blair in Andaman Nicobar Islands on 2nd and 3rd January 2005. The next day on 4th January 2005 he would be visiting shelter camps at Chennai. The Minister would also undertake the visit of relief camps at Pondicherry on 5th January 2005.

It may be recalled that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has sanctioned 390 Mega Work Camps to be organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan for putting up rescue camps, community kitchens, reconstruction of damaged houses of poor and establishments like Schools, Public Health Centres etc in the Tsunami affected areas.

As a long term measure, following three programmes have also been sanctioned to NYKS in all the 17 Tsunami affected districts: (i) Setting up of Counselling Centres for organising like skill counselling services for one year; (ii) Setting up of a Help Lines at District Headquarters for one year; (iii) Residential Camps for three months for 200 adolescents, who have been orphaned in each affected district.
