Ten States have achieved cent per cent village electrification. These are, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Punjab, Sikkim and Tamilnadu. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Tripura have achieved more than 95 per cent village electrification. The States which have achieved more than 75 per cent but less than 95 per cent village electrification are Assam, Chhattisgarh, Manipur, Orissa, Uttaranchal and West Bengal. Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya have the maximum backlog of unelectrified villages. Uttar Pradesh has 97122 inhabited villages. The number of electrified villages in the State so far is 57042. The remaining 42080 villages in Uttar Pradesh are yet to be electrified. In Bihar, out of the 38475 villages, 19251 are electrified. The remaining 19224 villages are still to get power supply. The number of electrified villages in Jharkhand is 7641 out of a total of 29336. It has a backlog of 21695 villages awaiting electricity. In Arunachal Pradesh, the number of villages is 3649. Out of them 2335 are having power. In Meghalaya, out of the 5484 villages, 3016 are electrified.
The 112401 unelectrified villages in the country are mostly located in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal and Assam.
