Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Minister of Rural Development has written to all the Chief Ministers of the States for extending cooperation and assistance to Vigilance & Monitoring Committees to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
The Chief Minister of Punjab, Capt. Amrinder Singh, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Tarun Gogoi and Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Smt. Vasundhara Raje has responded and assured the Minister that the concerned State Governments shall extend due cooperation and assistance.
The Ministry of Rural Development has constituted the District Level Vigilance & Monitoring Committees with the concerned MPs as the Chairman of the Committee. These Committees shall ensure effective monitoring of the utilization of funds under various Rural Development programmes.
The Minister of Rural Development has requested all the MPs as the Chairman of the Vigilance & Monitoring Committees to hold the first meeting by the end of December, 2004.
It is expected that with the constitution of these Committees, now decentralized level District Vigilance & Monitoring Committees shall be effective and more and more involvement of local representative shall be ensured.
