The Government of India provides assistance to State Governments under its Scheme of grants for Creation of Sports Infrastructure subject to the receipt of viable proposals and with an undertaking from the grantee that the facility will be made available for bonafide purposes to the general public free of cost or at a nominal/token payment only. It is for the State Governments to create sports facilities for utilisaiton by the public on payment basis. This was stated by the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Sunil Dutt in reply to a question by Shri S.P.M. Syed Khan in Rajya Sabha today.
He further stated that the sports facilities available in various Sports Authority of Indias (SAI) stadia in Delhi and in other SAI Centres can also be utilised by the public on payment basis for regular coaching/pay and play schemes of SAI.
