Lok Sabha

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has approached 218 organisations of industry and trade to know their views on affirmative action including reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the private sector. Stating this in reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today, the Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Shrimati Meira Kumar said that after knowing their response, meetings would be held with the industry followed by consultations with political parties and other organisations on the issue. She said that the future course of action depends upon the outcome of the national dialogue with the industry, political parties and other organisations.

Shrimati Meira Kumar said that her Ministry has started actively monitoring the implementations of the reservation policy by the NGOs. She said that NGOs are agreeable to implementing the reservation policy. The Minister said that the grant is released to NGOs only on acceptance of terms and conditions. The instructions by the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) provide that all NGOs employing more than 20 persons on a regular basis and in receipt of annual grant-in –aid, which exceeds 50% of their recurring expenditure, should follow the reservation policy.
