The Kuno Palpur Wildlife Sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh has been identified as an alternate home for the single islolated population of Asiatic lion in Gir forest of Gujarat. The decision to relocate a few lions to an alternate habitat was based on several considerations including epidemic threat.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Environment and Forests Shri Namo Narain Meena in a written reply to a question from Members of Parliament Shri Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu and Shri Vikrambhai Arjanbhai Madam in the Lok Sabha today.
