relief measures by railways for tsunami earthquake hit people

The Union Minister of Railways Shri Lalu Prasad has ordered issue of free passes for travel of stranded people in Tsonami earthquake hit areas, who went there as tourists or otherwise, and want to travel back home at different places in the country. Free passes will be issued by the railways on the certificate given by the State Authorities.

In addition, the Railway Minister has ordered that all the relief material going to the affected people from any part of India will be transported free of cost by the railways.

Meanwhile, Indian Railways have contributed about Rupees 25 crores to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to supplement national efforts for relief and rehabilitation of the victims of tsonami earthquake. The contribution includes nine public sector undertakings of the Ministry of Railways as well.
