re-constituted project coordination group on steel meets

The first meeting of the re-constituted Project Coordination Group on Steel met here, today. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers and Steel, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan. This group is a high powered group, under the chairmanship of Steel Minister with Secretary, Steel as Convenor. Members of the group include Secretaries of key ministries and departments of the Government of India such as Finance, Financial Services, Coal, Mines, Power, Shipping, Road Transport, Planning Commission, Commerce, Environment & Forest. Other members of the re-constituted group on steel are the Chief Secretaries of Orissa, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Karnataka, Chairman, Railway Board and Chiefs of key banks and financial institutions. In today’s meeting, discussions were primarily aimed at facilitating creation of new steel capacities specially with regard to availability of finance, raw materials and infrastructure required to support capacity growth in the country. During the meeting, discussions were focused on the requirements of steel sector based on a production target of 110 million tones by 2019-20. In his opening address, the Minister outlined the need to achieve projected growth levels. He requested members of the re-constituted group to work for the goal.

Dr. Mano Ranjan, Secretary (Steel) also addressed the meeting.
