The revised estimate of Pench Diversion Project of Madhya Pradesh received in August, 1985 was considered by the Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Water Resources in October, 1988 and was found acceptable subject to certain observations. The Planning Commission did not recommend this project for inclusion in the Eighth Five Year Plan as priority fixed by the State Government was to complete the ongoing schemes first. The updated proposal of the project for an estimated cost of Rs. 641.35 crore (2000 price level) was submitted in August, 2000 which was examined by Central Water Commission (CWC) and the project proposal was found to have change in the scope of project as compared to the previous proposal received in 1985. After examining the proposal the comments/observation of CWC were communicated to the State Government. Subsequently, State Government submitted the modified Detailed Project Report in July, 2002 after incorporating compliance to the comments of CWC for techno-economic appraisal. Clearance of the project depends upon the promptness with which State Government complies with the observations of Central appraising agencies.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Water Resources, Shri Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav in written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
