A Pakistani Parliamentary Delegation, led by Ch. Amir Hussain, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, called on the Vice President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat at Vice President House here this evening.
Welcoming Shri Hussain and members of his delegation the Vice President said that India and Pakistan both are developing countries facing common problems of poverty, unemployment, population explosion and development. He recalled the recent initiatives taken by both Governments for cordial relationship and increased people to people contact between the people of the two countries. He underlined the need to take the process further through dialogue to bring peace and prosperity for the people of both the neighbouring countries.
Shri Amir Hussain briefed Shri Shekhawat about the functioning of the parliamentary democracy in his country and impressed upon the need to further the process for strengthening cordial relations and people-to-people level contact between India and Pakistan. Some of the delegation members coming from bordering areas of Rajasthan showed appreciation for and keen interest in the sprinklers and drip-irrigation techniques that have been introduced in the State of Rajasthan. Shri Amir Hussain also extended an invitation to Shri Shekhawat to visit Pakistan.
The meeting lasted for about half an hour.
