ongc pays record interim dividend of rs. 2,114 crore to the government

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has paid a record interim dividend of Rs.2114.32 crore to the Government of India for the year 2004-05. The Cheque of the said amount was presented to Shri S.C. Tripathi, Secretary (MoP&NG) here today by Shri Subir Raha, CMD, ONGC. The interim dividend represent the highest ever payment by any corporate entity in the country. ONGC has declared the interim dividend @ 200 % of its paid up capital of Rs. 1425.93 crore, out of which Government of India holds 74.14 % . Last year the company had paid and interim dividend @140% which amounted to Rs.1679 crore as Govt. share on its equity in ONGC.

The leading Navratna which has the highest market capitalization amongst the corporate entities amounting to Rs.1,16,206 crore as on 29.12.2004 has so far paid total dividend of Rs.14,459 crore to the Government against its total capital investment of Rs.342.85 crore till date. The company recorded a profit after tax of Rs.5,692 crore during the first half of 2004-05 and sales revenue of Rs.22,290 crore. On this occasion ONGC officials informed that their contribution to central and state exchequer has been to the tune of Rs.96,315 crore during last 10 year.
