nscn(i/m) leaders meet the home minister

NSCN(I/M) leaders, Shri Isaac Swu and Shri T. Muivah met the Home Minister, Shri Shivraj Patil here today. The meeting lasted about 45 minutes. Both sides expressed their desire to find a peaceful settlement of the Naga issue through talks. Those present at the meeting included, among others, the Ministers of State for Home, Shri Sriprakash Jaisawal and Shri S. Regupathy, the Centre’s interlocutor for Naga talks. Shri K. Padmanabhaiah, the Prime Minister’s Special Advisor, Shri M.K. Narayanan and the Home Secretary, Shri Dhirendra Singh.

Accepting the assurance of the Government of India to hold intensive and undisturbed peace negotiations, the NSCN(I/M) leaders arrived here last Sunday. The visit is in pursuance of the invitation extended to them by the Government in October this year. It will facilitate the ongoing peace process through a detailed and sustained dialogue necessary to resolve the Naga issue.

Committed to the peace process, the Government of India has been engaged in political negotiations with the NSCN(I/M). It will continue to do so to arrive at a mutually acceptable negotiated settlement of the Naga issue.
