The Government has no plan to set up a separate National Biotechnology Institute in Madhya Pradesh. The Ministry has also not received any proposal for setting up of National Biotechnology Institute from Madhya Pradesh Government but received a proposal for establishment of the “University Institute of Biotechnology” from Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa, (MP). There is no provision for establishment of separate Institute for Biotechnology under HRD programmes of the Department of Biotechnology. However, the department is providing financial assistance to existing institutions for running post graduate teaching courses in Biotechnology. Awadhesh Pratap Singh University, Rewa (MP) has been advised accordingly.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Science & Technology and Ocean Development Shri Kapil Sibal in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
