nlc generates 1166 mu power in october

Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC), a public sector unit of the Department of Coal has generated 1166.82 million units of power during the month October 2004 against a target of 1074 million units. The power generation during the month has been 3.44 per cent more than the generation of 1128.03 million units during the same month last year. The lignite production during the month has been 14.53 lakh tonnes against 14.32 lakh tonnes during the same month last year. NLC, during the month, exported 972.80 million units of power against a target of 886 million units.

Geological reserves of lignite in the country have been estimated at around 35,636 million tonnes (MT). Out of the above 4,150 MT spread over 480 sq. km. is in the Neyveli Lignite fields in Cuddalore District of which around 2,360 MT have been proved.
