negligible impact of tsunami tidal waves on indian railways

Sunday, December 26, 2004

Train services across the country especially in southern India are normal. The impact of Tsunami tidal waves that hit the Indian coast today was negligible on rail services.

However, 11 sub-urban train services were cancelled in the forenoon in Madras Division of Southern Railway. Four trains were delayed from half an hour to 45 minutes in Trichy Division of Southern Railway. About 2 km. long meter gauge track on Nagore- Tirivayur section was damaged. Restoration work on this line has been taken up on war footing.
