The value of total mineral production of the country (excluding atomic minerals) during 2003-04 has been estimated at Rs.66,308 crore against Rs.63,540 crore in 2002-03 and Rs.60,832 crore in 2001-02.
India has similar geological setting and metallogenetic history of mineral rich Australia, South Africa and Antarctica. Due to lack of advanced state-of-the-art technology and low investment for detailed exploration, deep-seated high value minerals have not yet been fully discovered.
This information was given by the Minister of Mines, Shri Sis Ram Ola in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
