The 2nd Sports meet of Members of Parliament and Media Persons covering Parliament Proceedings was held at National Stadium in New Delhi today i.e. 18th December, 2004. Two sports, namely, Kabaddi and Tug-of-War were organised. Mr. Dara Singh, Member of Parliament was the Refree for both the events and Ms. Shobhangi Thapray, Bureau Chief, Free Press Journal took the Commentator’s role. While, 18 Members of Parliament including Union Ministers participated from the Parliament Side, 19 Members were in the Media side. Shri Oscar Fernandes was the Captain of Team of Members of Parliament. Shri Javid Ansari, Captained the Media Team. The Members of Parliament team led by Shri Oscar Fernandes, lifted the Cup in the Kabaddi event.

In a well contested Tug-of-War event, the Media Team led by Shri Javid Ansari won the 1st prize against the Members of Parliament team. 22 Media Persons covering Parliament Affairs formed the team for Tug-of-War and Members of Parliament Team comprised 18 Members including the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Minister Shri Oscar Fernandes, Shri Jagdish Tytler and Dr. Dasari Narayan Rao. The Members of Parliament, cutting across the party lines enthusiastically participated in the event. The sports event was organized by Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs which was sponsored by Sports Authority of India.

In the 1st sports meet for Members of Parliament was held on 30.11.2004, the sports of Badminton, Shooting and Table Tennis were organized at the DDA Siri Fort Sports Complex. Shri Navin Jindal won the shooting event. The doubles team of Shri Oscar Fernandes or Shri V. Narayana Swamy won the 1st prize in Badminton. The Table Tennis event was won by Shri Suresh Pachori, Minister of State for Personnel and Parliamentary Affairs. The Vice President of India, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat gave away the prizes to the winners.
