The Vice President, Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat has called upon mediapersons to highlight the problems and grievances of rural masses especially of the people living below the poverty line so that their problems can be solved. Releasing two books entitled “PATRAKARITA KE NAYE DAUR, NAYE PRATIMAN” and “NISHANE PAR SAMAY, SAMAJ AUR RAJNITI”, authored by senior journalist Shri Santosh Bharatiya, here today, Shri Shekhawat said that the 26 crore people, living below the poverty line wants to know what is being done for their welfare and for the solution of their problems and grievances. He cautioned that we have to consider the poor masses as the fifth pillar of our democracy and will have to work for their development, otherwise we will have to face the dire consequences.

Shri Shekhawat said that the main reason for such a large scale of poverty after so many years of independence is ‘the corruption’. Due to corruption, the poor people don’t get the foodgrains earmarked for them under PDS system. He called upon the mediapersons to go to the villages and find out the basic reasons for their pathetic conditions and highlight the realities boldly. Only then the poor will get their benefits.

Shri Shekhawat said that in spite of mere investigative journalism, there should be creative aspect of investigative journalism also which can be useful in solving the problems of the poor and the common masses.

Shri Digvijay Singh, former Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri M.J. Akbar, senior journalist and the author of the books, Shri Santosh Bharatiya, senior journalist also addressed on the occasion.
