The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mr. Abdullah Ahmad Badawi called on the Vice President Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat at the Vice President’s House, here this evening. He was accompanied by the Members of his delegation.
Welcoming Mr. Badawi the Vice President congratulated him on the victory of his party in the recently held elections in Malaysia and his taking over as the Prime Minister of the country. Shri Shekhawat said that India and Malaysia enjoy close cultural ties from ancient period. Both are democratic countries where people of different religions and communities live in harmony and cooperation with each other. In recent years there has been a good deal of economic cooperation and people to people contact between the two countries.
During the half an hour meeting the two leaders deliberated on strengthening operation between India and Malaysia, particularly in the field of Information Technology, Space Research and infrastructure development. They also discussed the cooperation between the two countries with a view to strengthen the ASEAN and thereby better economic development and cooperation among the countries of the region.
