kyndiah reviews progress of nec schemes

The Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) and Tribal Affairs Shri P R Kyndiah reviewed progress of various schemes and projects undertaken by the North Eastern Council (NEC) at its headquarters in Shillong.

Addressing the officials, Shri Kyndiah emphasised on the need for proper utilisation of funds allocated for various schemes and projects taken up in the North Eastern region. He hoped that the council would be able to address critical socio-economic issues of the region and fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the people of the North East. The Minister said it was important that progress of schemes and projects be properly evaluated and monitored so that their benefits could percolate to the grassroot level. He also underscored the need for transparency in functioning and delivery systems. He hoped that new initiatives would be made into sectors that had not received adequate attention in the past for all round development all eight states of the region.

Shri Kyndiah who was recently appointed the NEC Chairman discussed the plans for revitalisation and strengthening of the council as a regional planning body, in line with the recent decision taken by the Union Cabinet.

The Minister also appealed to the people of the North-East to come forward and help in the relief and rehabilitation effort by donating generously in cash and kind.

The Minister was briefed by NEC Secretary, Dr. Kamal Taori and sectoral heads of the Council. DONER Secretary, Shri Laxmi Chand and Joint Secretary, Dr. H. Paliwal were also present on the occasion.
