India and Ukraine will soon sign an agreement to protect intellectual property rights especially in the sphere of Science and Technology. This was disclosed by the Minister for Science and Technology and Ocean Development Shri Kapil Sibal while inaugurating the Exhibition on Ukrainian Science & Technology here today. He said that negotiations between the two countries are at an advanced stage and the agreement is likely to be signed during his visit to Ukraine next year. Shri Sibal said that there is increasing realization around the world for public-private partnership so that scientific discoveries and technological innovations reach the common man at competitive price. He said that Ukraine has a strong technological base in metallurgy, energy resources, agricultural extension services, stem cell research, desalination process and nano particles and India can benefit a great deal through cooperation. The two countries are currently working on 30 joint projects but the potential is high for cooperation in many other areas, Shri Sibal said.

A 40 member Science & Technology delegation is now on a visit to India in connection with the Exhibition on Ukrainian Science & Technology. On display are several technology exhibits from various institutes of Ukraine such as Equipment and Technology of searching corrosive damages, optical sapphire windows, dust and gas protective respirators, traffic control system for aviation, hip joint prostheses and intervertebral disk implants, processing the waste of rice production into silicon carbide, electric filters, holographic interference microscope etc. The Exhibition will be on till December 23, 2004.
