The recently formed Vigilance and Telecom Monitoring Cell of Department of Telecommunications, Chennai Region orgainised a raid alongwith Bangalore City Police and busted an illegal telecom network in Bangalore for receiving international calls. This illegal set-up which consisted of sophisticated telecom equipments -- two ISDN PRI lines from BSNL, 24 WLL fixed phones from M/s Reliance and bandwidth on optical fibre and DSL modems, was bypassing the authorised international long distance operators. Two persons have been detained in this connection and a case against them has been registered.
This illegal set up has caused a loss of Rs. 2.5 crore in the last three months, besides loss of tax revenue to the Government. The Police are further investigating the case to find out the involvement of any other Indian and Foreign partners.
