iipa appointed consultants to deptt. of consumer affairs

The Department of Consumer Affairs has appointed Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi as a Consultant to the Department of Consumer Affairs for three years in the area of consumer protection and consumer welfare. This appointment is under the Scheme of the Department to encourage involvement of Research Institutions/Universities/Colleges etc. in promoting consumer welfare. Financial Grants for the implementation of the Scheme are provided from the Consumer Welfare Fund being operated in the Department of Consumer Affairs.

As a consultant, IIPA would evaluate proposals received by the Department for sanction of funds under the new scheme for universities and colleges for organizing consumer related activities; recommend for sanction proposals for research or evaluation studies and publish results of research and evaluation studies conducted as per the above norms in the form of books, monographs, pamphlets etc. IIPA is also to sponsor/organize seminars, workshops or conferences on consumer related issues at national and regional levels. However, the functioning of IIPA under this consultancy award would be on a recommendation of a Monitoring Committee to be constituted in the Department of Consumer Affairs for this purpose.

An amount of Rs. 90.1 lakh has been sanctioned as consultancy charges for the first year commencing from 2004-2005. An amount of Rs. 90 lakh will also be released to IIPA in installments based on the number of the proposals approved by the Evaluation Committee from time to time.
