handicrafts exports to reach rs. 20,000 crore in the next five years – shri vaghela

Shri Shankersinh Vaghela, Minister for Textiles in a written statement informed the Rajya Sabha today that going by the present trend of growth, exports of handicrafts is likely to achieve around Rs.20,000 crore in the next five years. In the year 2001-02 handicrafts exports has touched Rs.9,205.63 crore, in 2002-03 they had touched Rs. 10,933.67 crore and in the year 2003-04 they reached the figure of Rs. 12.765.18 crore. The Minister said, going by the trend a figure of Rs.20,000 crore is very much possible in the next five years.

To promote handicrafts exports the Government has proposed to set up an Indian Exposition Mart at Greater Noida, a state of the art Technology and Design Centre for Photo and Picture framing at Saharanpur and Jodhpur, Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Greater Noida, establish an Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT) at Bhadohi and Satellite centres of IICT at Jaipur and Srinagar. The Government also proposes to set up a permanent showroom in Dallas Mart in the USA.
