Central assistance of Rs.30.00 lakh was released to Jammu and Kashmir Government during 2003-04 under the Sports Infrastructure Scheme for creation of various sports facilities in the State. In addition, an infrastructure project involving Rs.30.00 lakh central assistance was also sanctioned.
Centrally sponsored scheme of National Service Scheme was also in operation, though grant could not be released on account of non-receipt of accounts.
Nehru Yuva Kendras along with Scheme of National Service Volunteers are functioning in 14 districts of Jammu & Kashmir. A sum of Rs. 1.27 crore was incurred on these schemes. A programme for visit of Kashmir rural youth to other parts of the country was also implemented at cost of Rs. 0.56 crore. Sports Authority of India (SAI) has a SAI Training Centre and has adopted two schools under National Sports Talent Contest (NSTC) scheme in the State of Jammu & Kashmir.
