India has made proposals to Pakistan for implementing the suggestions made during the Culture Secretary level talks in August, 2004. These talks related to promotion of friendly exchanges in various fields between the two neighbours.
Under the forum of SAARC, there is a provision of SAARC Film Festivals and SAARC Cultural festivals. Sri Lanka hosted the first ever SAARC Film Festival in September, 1999. The second SAARC Cultural Festival was recently held in Dhaka in March 28-31, 2004 and the third SAARC Cultural Festival is to be held in India in 2005. Other steps being taken to strengthen cultural ties in the region include;
Invitation to Pakistani artistes for participation in 11th Triennale-India exhibition being organized by Lalit Kala Akademi from January 15-February 10, 2005 in New Delhi.
Invitation for participation of two to three theatre groups from Pakistan in the 7th Rang Mahotsav (National Theatre Festival) being organized by National School of Drama from January 5 to 20, 2005 at New Delhi.
Invitation to Pakistani painters to participate in International Painters Camp being organized by Lalit Kala Akademi at Hyderabad from February 20 to March 10, 205.
Invitation to a 8-member youth delegation from Pakistan to participate in the National Youth Festival being organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of India at Hyderabad from January 12 to 16, 2005.
