The all-India Consumer Price Index for Urban Non-Manual Employees CPI(UNME) on base 1984-85=100, for the month of November, 2004 was released here today by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation together with the indices for 59 selected urban centres in India. The all-India CPI(UNME) for November, 2004 is 439, one point less than the index for the previous month i.e. October, 2004. At the group level, the index for November, 2004 when compared to last month i.e. October 2004, decreased by 0.93 percent in respect of "Food, Beverages & Tobacco" group. The corresponding all-India index for November, 2003 being 422, the index for the month of November, 2004 has shown a rise of 4.0%, over a year.
Statement-1 gives the CPI(UNME) for all-India and 59 selected urban centres in the country for November, 2004; together with the indices for the preceding five months. The CPI(UNME) for November, 2004 in respect of four metropolitan cities of India, together with the corresponding indices for the previous month and also for November, 2003 are given below:-

Statement-2 gives a comparison of CPI(UNME) for November, 2004 in respect of 59 selected urban centres with the indices for the corresponding month of last year, namely November, 2003. Percentage change in the index is shown in the last column. From the statement, it may be noted that the variation in the index for various centres ranges from 1.3 to 7.1 percent; with the largest increase being in the case of Asansol and the least in the case of Gangtok. The increases are 0.0 to 2.0 percent for 6 centres, 2.1 to 4.0 percent for 33 centres, 4.1 to 6.0 percent for 16 centres and 6.1 percent and above, for 4 centres. As many as 36 centres have lower annual percentage increase as compared to that of the all-India figure of 4.0 percent and 3 centres have recorded equal percentage while 20 centres have recorded a higher percentage increase as compared to the all-India average.
