The first meeting of the Committee to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Munshi Premchand was held under the chairmanship of Shri S. Jaipal Reddy, Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture.

The Committee discussed the programmes and activities to be taken up during the year long celebrations beginning from July 31, 2005. These include refurbishment of Munshi Prem Chand’s house at Lamhi in Uttar Pradesh, holding of a number of seminars, shows of films made on writer’s novels and stories and drama performances based on the same. The committee also discussed the modalities to disseminate the literary works of Munshiji to the masses. The members suggested that the celebrations should include to propagate the message of the late literary genius. It was also decided to perpetuate the memory of Munshi Premchand by persuading local authorities to naming a street after the writer and also by installing a statue, preferably in the capital.

In this Committee Shri Shiv Kumar Mishra is the Vice-Chairman whereas Shri Zuber Razvi and Smt Sarla Maheshwari are co-conveners.
