The total coal production in the country in October 2004 is estimated at 31.06 million tonnes (MT) as against 27.77 MT in the same month last year. Out of this 477 working mines of Public Sector Coal India Limited (CIL) produced 26.90 MT, 67 mines of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), a joint Undertaking of Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of India, produced 2.78 MT and other 16 mines contributed 1.38 MT.
The total off-take of coal during the month was 29.89 MT against 28.15 MT during October, 2003. Coal off-take by CIL increased from 24.29 MT in October, 2003 to 26.24 MT in October, 2004. The off-take of SCCL increased from 2.58 MT in October, 2003 to 2.72 MT during October, 2004. Off-take from other working mines declined from 1.28 MT to 0.93 MT.
