The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved the extension of the Shiksha Karmi Project (SKP) Phase-III, for two years from July 1, 2003 to June 30 2005, with a total Phase-III outlay of Rs.201 crore, including Rs.96.35 crore for the two year extension period. CCEA also revised the pattern of sharing of cost between Government of India and Government of Rajasthan from the existing 50:50 to 75:25 respectively during the two year extended period of Phase-III. Government of India share will be fully reimbursed by DFID of UK as grant. Salary liability of 1100 new Shiksha Karmis to be appointed during 2004-05 will be borne under the SSA programme after closure of SKP in June, 2005, as a one time measure and not to be treated as a precedent for other projects.
It would help in achieving the goal of Universalisation and qualitative improvement of primary education in the remote and socio-economically backward villages of Rajasthan, with a focus on girl child.
The project now covers 3650 villages in 150 blocks of 31 districts in Rajasthan. 8655 Shiksha Karmis provide primary education to 2.74 lakh children in Day Schools and Prehar Pathshalas (schools of convenient timings). There are 3477 day schools,1885 Prehar Pathshalas and 97 Aangan Pathshalas being run under the SKP.
