The country acquired a thermal capacity addition of 210 MW in October, 2004. This happened when the Unit-4 of the Mejia Thermal Power Station of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) in West Bengal was commissioned.

The addition to hydro capacity was 175 MW in the same month. This became possible after the commissioning of the Indirasagar Hydro Electric Project Unit-7 (125MW) of the National Hydro Development Corporation (NHDC) in Madhya Pradesh and the Sardar Sarovar Unit-1 (Canal Hydro Power House) of 50 MW in Gujarat.

Cumulatively, 1482.92 MW thermal and 350 MW hydro capacities were added to the country’s power generation system up to October, 2004.
