The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for signing, on behalf of the Customs administration of the Government of India, the International Convention on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters. The Convention will help in getting reliable, quick and cost-effective information for detection and investigation of Customs violations particularly, in the critical area of under-valuation of imports and over valuation of exports and the consequent fraudulent availing of export incentives. The Convention will also help in timely availability of relevant information for the prevention and investigation of Customs offences and establishing the involvement of Customs offenders, including persons involved in the abetting of these offences.
