Shri Shankersinh Vaghela, Minister of Textiles in a written statement informed the Rajya Sabha today that the Ministry was taking necessary steps to promote the “Made in India” brand to potential customers abroad. It is with this intention that the brand Equity Fund Scheme has been launched to promote Indian brands in overseas markets, with the primary objective of brand promotion. The scheme is also making the “Made in India” label a symbol of quality competitive price, reliability and service to the customer.

Under this scheme central assistance will be provided to finance the activities linked to the objective of brand promotion as distinct from export promotion; The Scheme will undertake international promotion to project India as a whole as well as its specific production sectors viz;, Industry, agriculture, services etc.; Support is to be provided to sectoral promotion to specific industries like engineering, textiles, electronics, pharmaceuticals, software etc and also product group promotion within each sector. This Scheme will support particular brands, which have achieved world-class quality and performance standards. The Scheme will be applicable to promotion of India’s apparel and textile brands in the markets abroad.

In addition to the Scheme the Export Promotion Council have been undertaking export promotion events like participation in overseas exhibitions/fairs, organizing BSMs abroad, overseas publicity, sponsoring trade delegations etc. in consultation with Indian Missions abroad to improve the brand image of Indian Textiles.
