The Chairperson of the National Commission for Women Dr. Poornima Advani presented to the Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment Smt. Meira Kumar, a copy of Braille version of the book compiled by the Commission. The book is a useful compendium of various issues for empowering women as well as a usable tool for realising their rights. It also makes them aware of the basic legal rights and remedies and the justice delivery system. The Book also has an important chapter on economic and welfare schemes available for women. It also provides information regarding services available at the District Disability Rehabilitation Centres.
Smt. Meira Kumar informed Dr. Advani that her Ministry would soon announce a National Policy on Persons with Disabilities. She said that she would welcome suggestions of the National Commission for Women for incorporating in the new policy.
