availability of fertilisers in bihar - press note

Owing to good season and adequate availability, the sales of urea, DAP and MOP up to 15th December, 2004 have been higher by about 35%, 20% and 4.6% respectively compared to the corresponding period of last year. The total requirement of urea, DAP and MOP for Rabi 2004-05 season is estimated at about 108.35 lakh MT, 39.39 lakh MT and 12.37 lakh MT respectively. Against this, the estimated availability may be around 118 lakh MT, 46 lakh MT and 15 lakh MT.

In Bihar, as against a requirement of urea for the month of December of 2.0 lakh MT, about 2.45 lakh MT is being made available. By 18th December 1.37 lakh MT has been made available out of which, unsold stock of about 62,000 MT is available at different field locations in Bihar. Further supplies are scheduled within the month. Requirement of DAP is 40,000 MT in December 2004, against which by 18th December about 35,000 MT has reached Bihar and as on date (18th December), unsold stock of about 20,000 MT is available at different field locations in Bihar. Further movement is taking place as per requirement. Requirement of MOP in the current month is 13,000 MT against which, 14,000 MT has been provided already by 18th December out of which about 5000 MT of unsold stock is available at different field locations in Bihar.

The supply of major fertilizers to Bihar is as per the requirement. No shortages are anticipated in the availability of these fertilizers, the farmers are requested to note the availability. Distribution of fertilizer within different parts of the State is the function of the State Government and the State Government has been requested to ensure adequate availability of fertilizers to all the areas/districts of the State. Any person may call 1600-114400 (toll-free number) in the Department of Fertilisers to report black-marketing, hoarding of fertilizers or any problem relating to fertilizers for rapid action.
