As part of the overall strategy to gear up the textile industry for the post-MFA (multi-fibre arrangement) quota scenario, the government has given in principle approval for setting up of Apparel Parks at Butibori-Nagpur in Maharashtra. The Empowered Committee of Textile Centre Infrastructure Development Scheme (TCIDS) in its meeting held last month has also given in-principle approval for projects at Paali (Rajasthan), Malegaon (Maharashtra) and Zakura (Jammu & Kashmir),

Meanwhile, uptil end of October 2004, a total of 3599 applications for loans amounting to Rs.13500.80 crore (against a total project cost of Rs.25,115.28 crore) were received under the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) of which a total of Rs.9270.74 crore were sanctioned and Rs.6280.96 crore disbursed.

As to the power loom sector during the same period, a total of 375 applications were received for a loan amount of Rs.175.27 crore (against a total project cost of Rs.271.18 crore) of which an amount of Rs.164.73 crore was sanctioned and Rs.85.57 crore disbursed.
