Union Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram has approved 29 Foreign Direct Investment proposals recommended by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in its meeting held on December 10, 2004. The approvals amount to around Rs. 866.05 crore. These proposals related to Ministries/Departments; namely, Agriculture & Cooperation, Commerce, Health, Heavy Industry, Industrial Policy & Promotion, Information Technology, Post, Textiles, Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation, Economic Affairs and Information & Broadcasting. The major investment proposals pertain to the sectors like Agriculture & Cooperation, manufacture of electrical appliances, Infrastructure (Post), development of integrated township, infrastructure, NBFC Activities, television software production.
