For Mumbai, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) had proposed to the Government of Maharasthra for implementation of Sky Bus Metro along 9 routes aggregating to a length of 84.2 kilometres at the approximate cost of Rs.4587 crores. For Delhi, KRCL had proposed to the Government of Delhi for implementation of Sky Bus Metro along 9 routes aggregating to a length of 124.9 kilometres at an estimated cost of Rs.6620.9 crores.

KRCL is waiting for response from the concerned State Governments and Ministry of Urban Development.

Ministry of Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation has constituted a Committee in December, 2003 under the Chairmanship of Shri E.V. Indiresan to examine the feasibility of establishing and operating sky bus metro service in Indian cities. The terms of reference of this Committee are :


To examine the techno-economic and financial feasibility of the Sky Bus Metro system.


To ascertain the safety of the system


To critically evaluate novel system component, such as suspended rail technology, traversing systems, etc.


To critically evaluate the integration of different technologies.


Any other matter considered relevant by the Committee.


Report of this Committee is still awaited. Issues regarding the reduction in traffic congestion and cost of transport shall be decided once the report of the above Committee is received.
