Lok Sabha

The Centre has asked the States and Union Territories to maintain a strict vigil on violation of food product norms. This follows reports that non-permitted colours and flavouring agents were used in some food products. The use of colours and flavouring agents beyond the permitted quantities could also have been possible. Any violation of the food product norms attracts penal action under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954. This Act governs the use and extent of various artificial colours and flavouring agents in food products. The Minister of Food Processing Industries, Shri Subodh Kant Sahai, stated this in the Lok Sabha today.
