The I&B Ministry has so far permitted 161 private TV channels to be uplinked from India. Besides, a number of channels that are uplinked from abroad, are also available for viewing in India. Forty four (44) companies have been permitted to uplink their TV channels from India since 1st August, 2002.
As on date, proposals of the 24 companies are at various states of scrutiny.
This Information was given by Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture, Shri S. Jaipal Reddy in reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
