Rajya Sabha

The representation of Central Trade Union Organizations in the Indian delegation to the International Labour Conference (ILC) is dependent upon their certified membership strength. While the representation of a particular Trade Union in the workers’ group is decided by the Government on the basis of their strength, their nominees are decided by the respective trade unions. Stating this in a written reply in the Lok Sabha, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that the Government of India received an invitation from the ILO for a tripartite delegation comprising representatives of the State, the Employers and the Workers to the ILC held from 31st May to 16th June, 2005. A tripartite delegation was, accordingly, sent to attend the conference.

In reply to another question Shri Chandrasekhar Rao said that BMS, INTUC, CITU, HMS, AITUC and UTUC (LS) were nominated to represent India in the ILC for the current year. He said that as per the latest General Verification of Trade Union Membership (as on 31.12.1989) which was published on 26.12.1996, the ranking of the Central Trade Union Organizations are as under:

1. Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS)

Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC)
Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU)
Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS)
All India Trade Union Centre (AITUC)
United Trade Union Centre (Lenin Sarani) {UTUC(LS)}
united Trade Union Congress (UTUC)
National Front of India Trade Unions (NFITU)
MLD :NC/ lab-71 (Ls-trade unions) Aug 2.
