Government has approved upgradation of 4000 km of National Highways under NHDP Phase III A at a cost of Rs.22,000 crore on BOT (Toll) basis. Government has also given approval for initiating advance action in the form of preparation of Detailed Project Reports for another 6000 km of National Highways under NHDP Phase III B.
There have been delays in some contracts pertaining to NHDP Phase I and Phase II due to problems associated with land acquisition, shifting of utilities, poor performance of constructors etc. However, it is expected that actual expenditure on projects will not differ much from the estimated cost, allowing for escalation.
This information was given in the Rajya Sabha today in a written reply by the Minister of state for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Shri K.H. Muniyappa.
